Ribcraft Decide Not to Exhibit at 2012 London Boat Show

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Commercial sales are on the up for 2012 according to Ribcraft, the leading British boat manufacturer of Rigid Inflatable Boats

2011 has proved to be an excellent year for leading British boat manufacturer Ribcraft, which has seen its commercial sales increase by 26 per cent.

The company, which is the leading British builder of reliable and superbly manufactured Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), is confident that 2012 will be another opportunity to build on its current success in the commercial market.

Ribcraft has recently completed orders for commercial operators working in sea rescue, military training, maritime patrol and offshore oil and gas installations.  Clients are international and span West Africa, the Mediterranean as well as those closer to home. Recent UK orders include the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and its recent acquisition of a brand new 585 Ribcraft for training purposes and the South West Wales Ferryside lifeboat.

Managing Director, Mark Gardiner, said “We have seen real growth in the commercial side of our business this year, with leisure taking more of a back seat. For this reason we have made the decision not to go to London Boat Show in 2012 preferring to concentrate on shows like Southampton which was particularly beneficial for us this year.  We came away with a full order book that has seen us build on an increasing number of commercial opportunities.”

New Ferryside Lifeboat

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

The South West Wales Ferryside lifeboat crew will had plenty to celebrate at the PSP Southampton Boat Show when British UK manufacturer Ribcraft performed the official handover of its brand new lifeboat

Ferryside chose Ribcraft to design and build its new lifeboat because they wanted a company capable of providing a strong, durable craft of the highest quality that would offer a bespoke service that meant they could place all instruments exactly where they wanted them.

Anthony Rees, one of the coxwains at Ferryside, says, “Ribcraft was the obvious choice as not only do we already have one of their boats, but also we value their input and expertise as design consultants.  For example the design of the hull was particularly important and Ribcraft built an excellent offshore rib hull with upgraded 1500 gsm Orca 866 Hypalon tubing.”

The boat operates in and around Carmarthan Bay and has to cope with a large tidal range which means it has to float in shallow water as well as using its twin engine 90 hp motors to reach an incident as fast as possible.

Another important feature is the addition of Raymarine’s revolutionary e7 multifunctional display (MFD) with built-in WiFi connectivity so that the crew can access the e7 screen display from anywhere on-board via mobile iOS devices. This is particularly useful as Anthony Rees explains, “Being able to access the display from a variety of positions is ideal when training as it means that I can be situated in the navigational position but also see exactly what is happening at the helm. However the biggest advantage is the built in redundancy so if we lose one, there is a fully functional spare.”

Dorian Martin, Ribcraft Project Manager said, “We chose Raymarine’s new e7 because much of what was required in the spec from the client, including dual displays, connectivity, BLUETOOTH connection to the onboard mobile phone is in fact packaged in the system from Raymarine and Neptune.

“We are delighted that Raymarine has worked tirelessly to bring the products together for the fitment to the boat for the boat show.”

Ferryside Inshore Rescue, the marine division of St John Ambulance Cymru, is one of more than fifty independent lifeboats stationed around the British Isles that operate independently of the RNLI. They provide the same role as the RNLI and are, alongside the RNLI, the only “declared facilities” within HM Coastguard’s search and rescue organisation in the UK. As a declared facility Ferryside Lifeboat is launched by HM Coastguard in response to ’999′ calls and distress calls on VHF CH16.

Ferryside is particularly grateful to Masonic grand officer of West Wales Bob Darkin who, along with a number of other key people, secured more than £46K donation from the organisation. Also, a donation of £2,500 was received from the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust.

Ferryside lifeboat is available 24 hours a day throughout the year and is staffed entirely by local volunteers. A smaller second lifeboat is also available at any state of the tide for mud and sandbank rescues

Ribcraft scores a hat trick on the Thames

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

PRESS RELEASE

Ribcraft scores a hat trick on the Thames with third RIB delivered to top London attraction

When top London attraction Thames River Experience wanted a third RIB to join its growing fleet of bright yellow craft on the River Thames, they knew exactly who to contact.

British UK manufacturer Ribcraft has recently delivered the third of its commercial passenger carrying RIBS which like the two previous crafts supplied to the company is 11m in length and was designed to suit the specific requirements of Thames River Experience.

This meant paying particular attention to the foredeck boarding platform which was designed to fit the V-docks built into the piers along the Thames embankment. Once the bow was designed, the seating, conn and A-frame followed suit. Power supply was another important consideration as Thames regulations ruled out a petrol option and so diesel stern drives were installed and a Yamaha with twin counter rotating props was the selected engine option.

Owners of Thames River Experience, Charlotte and Dean, are delighted with their third RIB and are seeing their thriving business, started just two years ago and now featured in the Top 10 Things to do in London, going from strength to strength.  Charlotte said, “It has been a pleasure to work with Ribcraft and we are really delighted with our third acquisition. The Thames River Experience is now an established London attraction and it is wonderful to have three bright yellow Ribcraft making such a striking impact on the River.”

The Thames River Experience offers visitors and tourists several great options from sightseeing trips taking in iconic London landmarks along the River to specially themed trips including a James Bond experience complete with Bond music and a tour of the Thames relating to the Bond books and films. There is even some “spirited” driving in the derestricted part of the River where the speed of the Ribcraft with its twin Yamaha ME 422 engines provides a thrilling experience combined with a high margin of safety and comfort. The company also provides private charters and with the Olympics just a year away is looking forward to a very busy year ahead on the River.

British UK manufacturer Ribcraft introduces its new luxury cabin RIB, the 850 Sports Cruiser, at the 2011 London International Boat Show.  Aimed at the top end of the leisure RIB market, the Somerset based company has created a top drawer performance 28 foot RIB that also features a two berth cabin.  Visitors to the Boat Show looking for a comfortable, practical and safe RIB that also packs an outstanding performance thanks to its 300hp engine need look no further.

Ribcraft 850 Sports Cruiser

Ribcraft’s Mark Gardiner explains the thinking behind the new RIB, “Our whole business is about working with and building RIBS and as the leading UK manufacturer in this sector we saw that many of our leisure customers were looking for something that bridges the gap between a family fun boat and a serious offshore craft.

“The addition of a cuddy cabin allows all sorts of possibilities ranging from an overnight stay to somewhere for storage and the optional extra of a small toilet. There is also great protection from wind chill and spray with the wrap around sides and windscreen which means you can take longer trips far more comfortably and this will also help to extend the season.”

The Ribcraft 850 Sport is very strong and well constructed; she’s made to handle inhospitable conditions. Everything has been designed with this concept in mind including stainless steel fuel tanks, high windscreen for protection, two inch ‘A’ frame with tow point, integrally bonded consoles and seating.

From the stainless handrails to the teak trim, the 850 Sports Cruiser is well finished and offers a high level of workmanship.

As with any of Ribcraft’s performance RIBs, the 850 Sports Cruiser can be completely built to the individual customer’s requirements. From colour, layout and seat design to centre console design – everything is changeable.

Priced at around £70K it is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a top quality stylish RIB for family days out water-skiing or long distance offshore cruising.
